About
Sophia Chmelar is a sculptor whose recent work focuses on functional objects, particularly furniture. Drawn to the intersection of form and utility, she is interested in the beauty of everyday items, objects designed to be both used and appreciated.
Lately, she has been building chairs, simple, personal objects that offer support and structure. The act of making is as important as the object itself: a process rooted in care, persistence, and technical precision. At the heart of her practice is a desire to create work that lives in the world, not just in a gallery.
